What to do with scrap fabric - Retro Mama

Deciding what to make with scrap fabric is often a dilemma for me. The fabric is lovely, but there’s so little of it left! Luckily, Kim has put together 18 lovely solutions, in the form of creative, beginner-friendly sewing projects. So what kinds of things can you expect to see inside the book?

Handy Home Projects

The shoe mat (above left) would definitely make my life easier, and the apple-shaped pot holders are just adorable. The stems are made with printed twill tape that doubles as a hanging loop – how clever is that? You’ll also find a beautiful patchwork cushion project in this book, as well as a fox-shaped peg bag (cute!), a scrappy quilt, and more.

Crafty Essentials

The sewing kit and crochet holder are both compact enough for traveling with! You can also have a go at making a sweet pincushion and a gorgeous tote bag.

For the Kiddies

From owl bookends to fabric baby bibs, there are lots of ideas for child-friendly scrap projects. I especially love the pajama bear softies (above left) and the cloud and raindrop embroidered hoops (which I’d happily have in my room – the kids can fight me for them!)

Travel Accessories

These gorgeous floral make-up bags are just one of the holiday-ready makes in this sweet book. There’s also a jewellery wallet, a business card holder and an easy cross-body bag. And as with the rest of the book, these scrappy projects use a gorgeously varied range of prints – so no matter what’s in your scrap stash, you’ll be able to get stuck in.
