Many of us have unused and unloved pieces of furniture or objects around the house, the loft or in the garage that has long been forgotten and misused. Don’t throw it away or hide it under a pretty tablecloth! Upcycle! With a little love (and creative painting or papering) almost anything can be a creative up-cycled showcase for your home.
Stacie, writer for Stitch Craft Create Magazine, upcycled this fabulous wooden chest by giving it a fresh new makeover. Using a coat of crackle glaze bought from her local DIY store, she painted over the existing black paint and finished with a coat of matte interior paint. She then sat back and watched the magic of the crackle medium do its job.
We love the antique affect and colour choices Stacie makes. This affect would be great on other pieces of furniture like old bookshelves and kitchen cabinets. All you have to do is take a look around your home or office and see what pieces of furniture you can upcycle!
Decopatch is a paper and glue varnish system, which creates a decorative, hard-wearing finish. Papers are sold individually, and when torn and applied takes shabby to chic in no time at all. The best part of Decopatch is that anyone can do it. You can even involve the kids, which we love. Plus, it won’t break the bank. The perfect weekend craft!
