Joanna’s Story

joanna-storyJoanna tells us how embroidery helps her keep her work / home life in balance.

I can find it difficult to switch off from work and relax especially now my children have grown up and left home, I guess work fills the gap the children have left behind. I have always enjoyed embroidery, but find the focus required to stitch takes my mind off any worries or the impulse to check emails. I find my embroidery projects keep my work / home life in balance.

It’s not just in the actual act of doing the embroidery but also the pleasure and satisfaction of seeing a project finished (sometimes work life goes round in never ending cycles and you don’t get the satisfaction of completing something if you know what I mean). I always have a large piece on the go which I dip in and out of as my mood takes me with no pressure to finish and then I also have smaller projects where I can get pleasure out of completing something quite quickly or use cheerful colours to brighten my mood.
