Fiona’s Story

Fiona's StoryFiona tells us how cross stitch helped her gain closure after the sudden death of her husband.

I have been stitching for about 30 years now and 10 years ago I ordered this X Stitch (below) after falling in love with it. It arrived the day after my husband died unexpectedly. On and off I would pick it up and put it down as it evoked such strong emotions in me that often I couldn’t see what I was doing for the tears in my eyes . This caused plenty of mistakes (black aida and blurry eyes are not a good combination). Threads exposed to the light took on a different colour and it’s far from perfect. About six weeks ago I took it out for the final time, determined to finish it and today I have! Can’t wait to get it framed and put up on the wall! And in a strange way, it’s brought me closure.
