You will need:

Use 3 strands of stranded cotton (floss) to work all the cross stitches. Work back stitches with 2 strands.

1 Mark out the Aida fabric with tacking (basting) thread as shown in Fig 16 (below)

2 Stitch the design on section (b) in the position shown on Fig 16.

3 Fold section (b) over section (a), right sides together and seam the sides of the case, allowing 1/2in (1.5cm) for seams.

5 Stitch a button to the outside of the case on the front. Stitch a small loop of ribbon to the back of the case on the inside, so that it protrudes enough to go round the button (Fig 17)

6 Construct a similar case from the lining fabric and, wrong sides together, put the lining into the case. Slipstitch the lining in place around the top of the case. Remove tacking (basting) threads.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this stitchy freebie. Whether you make it as a gift for a new stitcher or keep it for yourself we know you’ll enjoy stitching it. Show us your completed scissor cases by commenting below or tagging us on social using #SewandSo
