How To Package and Ship Fragile Items

  • Wrap the fragile item in packing or newspaper so that it is completely covered. Next, wrap a sheet of bubble wrap around your  item. Use masking or celo tape to secure the ends of the wrapping. It is wise to attach an address label with both your address and the recipient’s address on the outside of the bubble wrap  in the instance that the parcel  is damaged during shipping.

  • Line the box with several layers of cushioning material, such as the brown packing paper, old newspapers, bubble wrap or Styrofoam peanuts. Place the wrapped item on top of the cushioning material. Fill the sides and the top of the box with enough of the cushioning material to keep the item immobile. Close and seal the top of the box with r packing tape. Use tape that is at least 2 inches wide.Write “FRAGILE,” in bold letters, on the top and sides of the box if it is indeed fragile or  “GLASS”  if the item is made of glass.

  • Place another address label on top of the box that displays the recipient’s address and your address. It is acceptable to use a marker and write directly on the box.  If you use an address label, place a strip of tape over it to protect it from moisture.

  • It is always helpful to visit the shipping company to determine the shipping cost, based on the weight of the package and the shipping service you need.
