I was bedridden for about 3 1/2 years in my mid- twenties and on high doses of morphine to manage the pain. Crafting, especially stitching, kept my mind active and stopped my mind from getting too foggy from the meds, warded off depression and generally calmed me down. I find stitching really calming and meditative. I still love it as much now as I did then.
