The current trend for folk art in fashion and interiors is bringing decorative folkloric colours and patterns into homes worldwide. Now cross stitchers can embrace the trend too with a new collection of cross stitch folk art kits from Polish design company Merejka.
Folk art references are everywhere in fashion, home decor and even beauty. Intricate patterns drawn from traditional dress, a bright palette and abundance of graphic florals characterize the look, which is overtly feminine and decorative. WGSN predicts that Folk Florals will be a huge trend for Autumn/Winter 2016. It is also a common trend during festival season.
Merejka, which is new to Sew and So, has drawn on these influences to create a range of cross stitch folk art kits featuring dynamic folk heroines with flower crowns and traditional costumes. The kits are wonderfully detailed and almost look other worldly, like a fairytale.
The range also includes these group of girls in traditional dress and a little shepherd girl with long flowing hair both including cute animals – the range even includes a mermaid scene – perhaps the ultimate folklore heroines! How coy do they look; perched under a tree on the riverside. It’s like they are keeping a secret.
As well as kits, there are also cross stitch folk art charts for some truly stunning floral cushion designs that will add a touch of folkloric beauty to any home. There are many different floral designs such as the Hedgerow chart, the Peonies chart and the Sunflower chart.
