Sew Cute To Carry | Stylish Handmade Bag Patterns

Learn how to sew twelve beautiful bags with this fun collection of bag patterns from designer Melanie McNeice of Melly & Me! If you’re new to sewing and have always wanted to make your own handbag, or have made them before and are just looking for inspiration for your next project, you’ll find a huge variety of designs to excite and impress.

Sew Cute To CarryGetting started with bag making is easier than you might imagine! If you’re a keen sewer, the essentials that you need are probably already in your cupboards: tracing paper, fabric markers, a rotary cutter and cutting mat, a ruler, scissors, sewing thread, fabric, various needles, fusible interfacing and, of course, a sewing machine. To make a unique bag with a professional finish, you may also want to add decorative elements such as buttons and bias tape, and hardware items like colourful zips and magnetic closures, which are available in many craft shops and online sewing stores. You can plan every bag that you make to ensure that you have everything needed in advance – these accessories and embellishments can make such a difference to your end result!

Sew Cute To CarryIn Sew Cute To Carry, Melly has designed a bag pattern for every occasion – choose from sophisticated clutches, pretty purses, handy shoppers and a roomy ‘carry-all’ for a weekend away! I love the fun Blue Skies Backpack, which would be great for an adventurous day trip. Whether you’re a complete beginner or a bag-making pro, you’ll find a design to inspire you, and there are useful difficulty ratings with each project to indicate the skill level required. Start off with the Happy Hobo Bag or the Wine & Dine Duo, and work your way up to the Sugar Sweet Shoulder Bag and the Ruffle Duffle overnight bag.

The book includes a handy pull-out pattern sheet with full-sized bag pattern pieces, and clear step-by-step instructions with photos and diagrams for each bag. All of the techniques are covered in detail at the back of the book, with everything from the basic stitches to creating piping, sewing darts, adding zips, turning handles, inserting closures, and more.
