SewandSo is really excited to have Lucie Heaton teaching a workshop at our upcoming Craft Sanctuary. Here, Lucie tells us all about herself and what she will be teaching at the Craft Sanctuary.
I’ve always been a keen crafter and had a love for art and needlework so when I saw a call out in a cross stitch magazine over twenty years ago I decided to respond and submitted my first ever design, a set of zodiac signs, the pattern was published and I’ve never looked back.
Over the years I’ve worked for magazines in the UK, USA and Netherlands and have contributed to various books as well as selling patterns in my online shop www.lucieheaton.com, I was one of the first people ever to offer pattern downloads when I started my site 10 years ago and I like to keep ahead with ways to share my designs with all the lovely stitchers out there.
I’m probably best known for my regular page in Cross Stitch Crazy Magazine, ‘Challenge Lucie’, which is where I come up with designs by special request from the readers, I’ve completed well over 1000 challenges, everything from wheelie bins to Sydney Opera house, you name it, I have almost certainly designed it!
When I was asked to be part of the Craft Sanctuary weekend I was thrilled to find out the theme was ‘Add a Little Sparkle’ as I knew this would be a fab opportunity to indulge in using some gorgeous luxury materials. I decided straight away that a butterfly would make the perfect project and would be an ideal way to incorporate a variety of materials and skills such as stitching with glossy satin and shimmering metallic threads. I chose the stunning gold-flecked Belfast linen after falling in love with the glittering effect of the fabric although we are also including an equally pretty aida option for anyone who would like a more leisurely stitch that it is easier on the eyesight.
Having tested and stitched the project myself from start to finish I’m so excited to be bringing it to the Craft Sanctuary weekend, I can’t wait to meet everyone and for the stitching to begin!
We are really looking forward to seeing everyone’s butterflies at the Craft Sanctuary. Reserve your space before the 5th December to get an early bird discount. To find out more about the Craft Sanctuary download the brochure here.
