Knitted Slippers Pattern | Snowflake Slippers

Everyone loves slippers, and when you can claim them as “handmade”, it makes these snowflake slippers extra special. This knitted slipper pattern, brought to you by Rowan British Sheep Breeds and Felted Tweed Wool, is a great project for you to put your feet up and knit. By Jemma Weston for Rowan

Snowflake Slippers

You Will Need:

Rowan British Sheep Breeds Boucle and
A BSB Ecru 220 2 x 100gm
B FT Pine 158 1 x 50gm
C FT Clay 177 1 x 50gm
Pattern note: 2 balls of yarn B may be required depending on your tension. Alternatively, yarn C could be used as the main colour for the front and back sections.
NEEDLES
1 pair 8mm (no 0) (US 11) needles
1 pair 3.75mm (no 9) (US 5) needles

TENSION
8 sts and 12 rows to 10cm measured over st st using 8mm
(US 11) needles and yarn A.
24 sts and 32 rows to 10cm measured over st st using 3.75mm
(US 5) needles and yarns B and C.

FINISHED SIZE
One size
One sock measures 25cm (10in) long and 16cm (6in) high.

FOOT LINING (both alike)
Using yarn A and 8mm (US 11) needles cast on 4 sts.
Row 1 (RS): Purl.
Row 2: K1, M1, K to last st, M1, K1.
Rows 3 to 8: As rows 1 and 2 three times. 12 sts
Beg with a P row, work in st st for 14 rows.
Row 23: P5, turn leaving rem sts on a holder.
Work each side of foot lining separately.
Dec one st at the beg of next and foll alt row. 3 sts.
Beg with a P row, work in st st for 15 rows.
Cast off.
With WS facing, rejoin yarn to rem sts.
Next Row: Cast off 2 centre sts, P to end. 5 sts.
Dec one st at the end of next and foll alt row. 3 sts.
Beg with P row, work in st st for 15 rows.
Cast off.
FRONT LINING (both alike)
Using yarn A and 8mm (US 11) needles cast on 12 sts.
Row 1: Purl.
Row 2: K1, M1, K to last st, M1, K1. 14 sts.
Row 3: Purl.
Row 4: As row 2. 16 sts.
Beg with a P row, work in st st for 15 rows.
Cast off.
BACK LINING (both alike)
Using yarn A and 8mm (US 11) needles cast on 10 sts.
Row 1: Purl.
Row 2: K1, M1, K to last st, M1, K1. 12 sts.
Row 3: Purl.
Row 4: As row 2. 14 sts.
Beg with a P row, work in st st for 17 rows.
Cast off.
SOLE (both alike)
Using yarn A and 8mm (US 11) needles cast on 4 sts.
Row 1: Purl.
Row 2: K1, M1, K to last st, M1, K1. 6 sts.
Inc as set by Row 2, on 2 foll alt rows and foll 4th row.
12 sts.

Beg with a P row, work in st st for 21 rows.
Row 32: K1, K2tog, K to last 3 sts, K2tog tbl, K1. 10 sts.
Dec as set by Row 32, on 4th row and foll 2 alt rows. 4 sts.
Next Row: Purl.
Cast off.
FOOT (both alike)
Using yarn B and 3.75mm (US 5) needles cast on 10 sts.
Row 1: Purl.
Row 2: K1, M1, K to last st, M1, K1. 12 sts.
Inc as set by Row 2, on 6 foll alt rows. 24 sts.
Beg with a P row, work in st st for 3 rows.
Row 18: K5, M1, K14, M1, K5. 26 sts.
Beg with a P row, work in st st for 3 rows.
Row 22: K5, M1, K16, M1, K5. 28 sts.
Beg with a P row, work in st st for 3 rows.
Row 26: K5, M1, K18, M1, K5. 30 sts.
Beg with a P row, work in st st for 3 rows.
Row 30: K5, M1, K20, M1, K5. 32 sts.
Beg with a P row, work in st st for 5 rows.
Row 36: K5, M1, K22, M1, K5. 34 sts.
Beg with a P row, work in st st for 5 rows.

Work each side of the foot separately.
Next Row: Purl.
Next Row: K to last 3 sts, K2tog tbl, K1. 13 sts.
Dec as set on 7 foll alt rows. 6 sts.
Beg with a P row, work in st st until the foot matches the foot
lining.
Cast off.
With RS facing re-join yarn to rem sts.
Next Row: Cast off centre 6 sts, K2tog, K to end. 14 sts.
Next Row: Purl.
Next Row: K1, K2tog, K to end. 13 sts.
Dec as set on 7 foll alt rows. 6 sts.
Beg with a P row, work in st st until the foot matches the foot
lining.
Cast off.
BACK (both alike)
Using yarn B and 3.75mm (US 5) needles cast on 33 sts.
Row 1: Purl
Row 2: K1, M1, K to last st, M1, K1. 35 sts.
Inc as set by row 2 on 4 foll alt rows. 43 sts.
Place chart
Work all 25 rows from chart entirely in st st.**
Beg with a K row, work in st st for 7 rows.
Cast off.
FRONT (both alike)
Using yarn B and 3.75mm (US 5) needles cast on 33 sts.
Work as back until **
Beg with a K row, work in st st for 3 rows.
Cast off.
Making Up
Felt the soles by machine washing on their own at 300c.
With WS of front facing the RS of front lining, join both pieces together using back stitch or mattress stitch if preferred and leaving a border of the lining showing.
With WS of back facing the RS of back lining, join both pieces together using back stitch or mattress stitch if preferred and leaving a border of the lining showing.
With WS of foot facing the RS of foot lining, join both pieces together using back stitch or mattress stitch if preferred and leaving a border of the lining showing.
Join the foot sections to the felted soles using picture as a guide.

Join the fronts and backs to the foot section.
