Handmade knits for babies will never go out of fashion and we have got the perfect baby cardigan knitting pattern for you to try. Expert knitter, Caroline Voaden, shows you how to knit a baby cardigan with this adorable pattern which looks super cute but is also super easy to make!
The pattern is a simple garter stitch (knit stitch) so you don’t have to worry about complicated stitches, and there is very little shaping – just some simple increasing and decreasing techniques which will stand you in good stead for future projects. This makes it the perfect project for a novice knitter.
We asked Caroline to show us how to make the cardigan in a video tutorial so you don’t need to worry about not understanding the pattern or getting confused – Caroline shows you exactly what to do every step of the way in a 46 minute tutorial, accompanied by a PDF download of the pattern.
The baby cardigan is made using an Aran weight yarn, in a simple garter stitch, and it’s completed with a cute button tab fastening. Along the way you’ll learn how to cast on, keep stitches on a stitch holder, cast off stitches to create the neck shaping, create a buttonhole, increase stitches to create tapered sleeves, and how to sew the garment together.
If you want to get cracking and make the cardigan straight away there is a video kit which includes the video tutorial, a PDF download of the pattern and three balls of Aran weight merino baby yarn. The video kit comes in two different colourways: pale pink and cornflower blue.
