This pretty flower needle case will brighten up your sewing bag. It’s quick to stitch and you can use your favourite colour threads for the flowers.
- White 28-count linen
- DMC stranded cotton (floss): Light Purple 340, Dark Purple 3746, Light Green 3347, Green 905 and Cream 745
- Purple and blue felt
Cross stitch the flower design onto linen with stranded cotton following the chart. Use two strands of light purple (DMC 340) for the flowers and two strands of light green (DMC 3347) for the stems and grass.
Backstitch around the edge of the flowers using two strands of dark purple (DMC 3746). Backstitch around the edge of the grass and stems using two strands of dark green (DMC 905).
Backstitch the flower centre design using two strands of cream (DMC 745). Cut the linen, allowing 6mm (¼in) all around the flower design – once cut this should measure approximately 5cm x 5cm (2in x 2in).
Cut a piece of purple felt measuring 8cm x 16cm (3½in x 63∕8in) and a piece of blue felt measuring 6cm x 14cm (23∕8in x 5½in). Pin the smaller piece to the centre of the larger piece and sew through the middle with backstitch. Fold in half to create a ‘book’ shape.
Attach the linen to the front of the needle case by sewing with blanket stitch using two strands of dark purple (DMC 3746).
Take care to ensure that you only sew through the purple felt and not the blue layer of felt inside the needle case.
