Inspired by the water meadows and rivers, Down By The River is bustling with life and charm. We have totally fallen in love with all the creatures in this delightful fabric and can’t wait to get sewing with it.
The creative minds behind Lewis & Irene are lucky enough to have this quaint setting at the end of their garden. It is a sight to behold and no surprise that they have created such a gorgeous fabric range inspired by it.
Featuring an abundance of wildlife, Down By The River is full of lush greens and blues with muted tones that give is an early morning feel. How many birds and animals can you spot in this scene?
The range has been beautifully described by Hannah, Creative Director “The river meanders calmly through the countryside whilst its banks are bustling with life. Its inhabitants; diving, nesting, feeding, paddling and playing. Inspired by the water meadows and river behind my cottage”.
How sweet are the otters above? They look ever so playful. The fabric is perfect for a wide range of projects such as bags, lampshades, quilts, cushions and the double border print fabric would look stunning as a skirt.
Lewis & Irene have their own ideas of what to make with Down By The River. They have created two types of cushions to make.
The first cushion, below, has been made in either the blue, teal or grey colourways. Using a star quilt block design each cushion has a different feel to it. I love the use of the Swans in Flight fabric as a border.
They have also created another cushion, below, using the hole in the barn door quilt block. They have used the Down By The River on teal for the middle fabric, which I think is really effective. With this design comes a small side cushion. Made using just two fabrics it uses is really simple to make and looks fantastic.
I have had a look on Instagram to find some more Down By The River sewing inspiration for you. I fell in love with these two projects: The table runner is by @hanykins and the adorable baby moccasins are by @lee.lies.moccs.
