You Will Need:

  • Patterned paper

For a unique look, try experimenting with gift wrap, re-purposed book or magazine pages, security envelopes and leaflets – but ensure that your chosen paper can be folded easily.

  • Clear plastic bag, paper or card, and a stapler (optional)

These items are only required if you’d like to package the folded book markers as a gift – see instructions below.

How to make the DIY folded book markers…

Folded book markers tutorial1. Cut a 10cm (4in) square of paper and fold it in half diagonally. With the long, straight edge at the bottom, fold the right-hand point of the triangle up to meet the centre point. Press firmly along the folded edge to create a sharp crease. Repeat with the left-hand point of the triangle.

2. Undo the last two folds, so you’re back to a triangle again. Working with the upper layer of paper only, fold the top point of the triangle down to meet the centre of the bottom edge. Press firmly along the fold.

3. Fold the right-hand point of the triangle up to the meet the centre point again. Now tuck it down behind the folded ‘flap’ you made before. Repeat with the left-hand point of the triangle. Finish by pressing firmly along the upper, folded edge of the pocket you’ve just created.

To turn the page markers into gifts or party favours, make a set in co-ordinating colours and slip into a clear plastic bag. Cut a square of paper or card the same width as the bag, fold in half and staple to the top edge. Decorate any way you like.
