You Will Need:
Insert crochet hook into a st, draw through a loop, take yarn over hook (1yrh), draw yarn through both loops on hook.
1st row: ch1 then dc rem sts.
2nd row: ch3 for 1tr,*2yrh, insert hook into foll st, draw through a loop, 1yrh, draw yarn through 2 loops, skip 1 st, 1yrh, insert hook into foll st, draw through 1 loop, °1yrh, draw yarn through 2 loops°, rep from ° to ° 4 times in tot; ch1, 1yrh, insert hook where 2 trs intersect, draw through a loop, 1 yrh, draw yarn through 2 loops, 1 yrh, draw yarn through last 2 loops,* rep from * to * and finish with 1tr.
3rd row: ch1 then dc rem sts.
Keep repeating rows 2 and 3.
1st row: dc entire row.
2nd row: dc entire row, inserting hook into back loop at top of st on previous row.
Keep repeating row 2.
*7 rows of lattice st, 13 rows of rib st*, rep from * to * (i.e. 20 rows in tot or 17cm).
It is essential to check your tension before starting your garment to ensure you get the right measurements.
With 5.5mm hook, 5 lattices = 11cm
With 5.5mm hook, 7 rows of lattice st = 9.5cm
With 5.5mm hook, 28 sts and 35 rows to 20cm in rib st.
Here’s how to make the Crochet Poncho…
BACK AND FRONT:
With 5.5mm crochet hook make a 75cm long foundation chain (104 sts) and continue to work in patt (see Stitches Used).
Fasten off when work measures 45cm.
Crochet second piece to match.
TO MAKE UP AND FINISH:
Use coloured yarn as markers to indicate 15cm from right (see patt) then again for next 15cm.
Assemble back and front as follows: place A and B markers of 1st piece on A’ and B’ markers of 2nd piece and graft together.
Place A and B markers of 2nd piece on A’ and B’ markers of 1st piece and graft together.
Make 35cm-long tassels (length of finished tassels) from 2 strands folded in half, and attach them along the bottom edge.
