Breath-taking photography and absolutely stunning vintage wedding cake designs — I’m holding in my hands an advance copy of Chic & Unique Vintage Cakes, the new book from award-winning cake decorating author Zoe Clark. So… who fancies a sneaky peak?
The cake designs in Vintage Cakes are mainly set around vintage styles, from the flapper dresses of the Charleston era through to 1950s big skirts and tight bodices. With projects ranging from simplistic tiered cakes to more complex, novelty creations, including a jewellery box, an ornamental clock and an unbelievably realistic Singer sewing machine.
There are 30 designs in total, including ten large tiered cakes or novelty cakes, many of which would make the perfect vintage wedding cake design, and 20 designs for matching cupcakes and cookies.
Some of the more complicated cake designs in the book make use of advanced suspension techniques, something that is new to the Chic & Unique series. This involves creating support structures from cake board, polystyrene plastic and wood to support gravity-defying cake design features.
The book also includes all the techniques you need to know to re-create the vintage cake designs, as well as recipes for Zoe’s delicious cakes, as sold in London’s prestigious department store Fortnum & Mason.
Here’s Zoe’s take on vintage:
“‘Vintage’ has become highly popular — especially when it comes to occasion and vintage wedding cakes — so now seemed the perfect time to explore this theme. I had so much fun researching and creating the intricate and beautiful vintage cakes within this book.”
Chic & Unique Vintage Cakes will be published in August but if you just can’t wait to get a more detailed look at these stunning cake designs you can order an advance release copy right now.
