Blue Sky is the latest fabric in store from Makower. We have all fallen head over heals in love with it. We’d like to drive in and swim in the scrumptious blue shades, it’s simply stunning.
The beauty of this fabric is the instant heirloom feel you get when you sew with it. The project you are making looks like it could have been handed down through the generations yet it does not feel outdated. The antique blues and off-white colours give it a much-loved feel.
Edyta has created a quilt using the Blue Sky fabric called the Stargazer. Made using four large star blocks it is made using half squares. This is great news because it means it is accessible to beginner quilters as well as experienced sewists. To make half squares you simply place your two square pieces of fabric right sides together. Draw a line straight down the middle of them, corner to corner. Then sew a quarter inch either side of that line. You then simply cut down the centre line and that will give you your two triangle blocks.
There is also a gorgeous bag for you to create with this fabric. The Summer Skies Tote is a large bag which would be perfect for a beach bag or craft bag. It has big deep pockets as well as a zip compartment for all your loose sewing essentials.
This fabric is so beautiful I could just get lost in it for days. Here are some of my favourites from the range.
Dreamy aren’t they? Below, our Editor Ame, tells us why she loves this fabric so much and has given a little demonstration for making the triangle blocks for the Stargazer Quilt.
