Princess Charlotte met the world’s media for the first time wrapped in a snuggly baby shawl. We’ve got a similar baby shawl pattern, made using super soft yarn, if you’d like to make one for any new arrivals in your family.
Baby soft skin deserves super soft clothes and accessories, and this beautiful crocheted baby shawl pattern fits the bill. It would make the perfect gift for a new baby because it is pretty, oh-so-soft and large enough to snuggle baby in.
This shawl, designed by well known crochet designer Nicki Trench, is made with 100% cotton yarn, Natura Just Cotton by DMC. This yarn is particularly soft because the long regular fibres give it softness and strength that makes it lovely to crochet with. It is especially suitable for clothing due to its soft touch, high absorption and durability to frequent washing, perfect for baby clothes.
This shawl would make an extra special gift for a baby and would be a lovely heirloom project – the size of the blanket is 61cm x 85.5cm (24 x 33.5’’). Although the pattern is designed to be used with Natura Just Cotton which has a super soft touch and modern matt finish, it can be made using alternative yarns including Patons Soft Baby 4 ply or Stylecraft Lullaby both of which come in a range of gorgeous pastel colours – just make sure you use the recommended hook size.
The pattern uses six balls of yarn in ivory and a 3mm crochet hook – happy hooking!
